NEW Fall 2023 Internships (Round 1) for High School Students

FITREE LEARNING kicks off its Fall 2023 internship program for high school students. Our organization is certified to approve service hours towards The President’s Volunteer Service Award.

FITREE LEARNING is pleased to offer students the opportunity to earn the President’s Volunteer Service Award, which was established in 2003 to recognize the important role of volunteers in America’s strength and national identity. Though these internship opportunities, high school and middle school students are able to apply critical leadership, communication and other foundational skills learned through FITREE LEARNING’s after-school program to positively impact their communities and inspire others to take action.

Fight Against Hunger and Food Insecurity: Long Island Cares

In partnership with Long Island Cares, FITREE LEARNING offers a Youth Leadership program that provides opportunities for leadership growth and positive community impact, right from our learning center in Syosset.  Students are taught hunger facts, local statistics & issues, and how Long Island Cares is addressing food insecurity. The program is designed to encourage students in finding out how their unique abilities and talents can be used to help others. Students are engaged in the following activities which earn service credits towards the President’s Volunteer Service Award:

  • Hunger 101 Education Workshops
  • Food Drives and Community Events
  • Working in Long Island Cares First-Stop Food Pantries
  • Gardening Projects
  • Job Readiness Workshops for Teens
  • Cooking and Nutrition Workshops
  • Virtual Projects
